Why think of thoughts that will never happen? The illusion of a perfect world, an utopia: a place with no war, with equality. Where the idea of pain and harm can only appear in nightmares. As Harrison Starr mentioned why write an anti-war book if instead you can write an anti-glacier one. The fantasy that war can be defeated only happens in fairytales. So my question is: why focus and believe on unrealistic dreams rather then try to make the truth less dreadful? The answer is motivation. People must have dreams, illusions. Dreams and goals that at the present moment might seem unreachable. However, they serve as a driving force or motivation for people to wake up every morning to work as hard as they can to reach that goal. Martin Luther King Jr. has a dream, a far fetched dream of equality for all. At the time of that unforgettable speech many thought he was crazy, unrealistic. However, history proved them wrong and today Barack Obama, is the first black president of the United States of America.

Manuela,
ResponderEliminarI like how you start your writing with a question: "why think of thoughts that will never happen?" I believe that this question can qualify into the "what ifs" questions. What is done is done,we can try to make things better but we can´t erase our past. We need to learn to accept it and to move on.
In the other hand I found it interesting how you talked about Martin Luther King Jr and how you ended your writing stating that the current president of the United States is black. Meaning that if you fight for your rights and goals, your results will be paid.
Manuela,
ResponderEliminarI completely agree with you. If for some people believing that their soul mate is out there somewhere helps them get through everyday of loneliness, then why not let them? If others like to believe that fame is just as possible as tripping when walking, then why deprive them of it? If whatever their beliefs or dreams are, help them keep going and not quitting, then I believe it's all worth it. Disappointment is inevitable but as Andrea says, we will sooner or later get over it. Once we're on the brink of making our dreams come true, we then realize that we have nothing else to look forward to, but once you're done with it "you get to go look for another dream" and the process starts all over again. Motivation, as you say, is what keeps us going. It can even be the most important thing.
Nice points... It is really interesting how you start with a question and throughout reading your post the reader starts reflecting on what the answer is. The answer you give is perfect, well it applies to everyone therefore the reader can relate to it and really understand your point. In my case I really identify with your point of view and like the fact that you incorporate Martin Luther King as outside info into your blog. Lastly, again I have to say that I agree... Who doesn´t have dreams? No one, or at least no one who realizes what he or she has been granted: life.
