This weekend my mother college roomate, Marcella Ciacci, came to visit from Panama. Over breakfast, we had a discussion of how today’s video games have implicated violence on children. She told us about the recent frightening fight her 17 year old son, Luca, was involved in. Luca, was watching a football game with some friends at a restaurant at 6pm, when suddenly he got into a disagreement with one of the boys sitting in the next table. As brawl started getting more aggressive and physical, Luca punched the boy in the face. The boys immediate and insane reaction was to grab an empty coke bottle and smash on Lucas face. Missing his eye by a miracle but leaving Luca with a deep scar on his left eyelid that required 45 stiches to fix! As I read the second part of Slaughterhouse Five, I related Lucas´terrible accident with Mary’s thoughts of how books and movies were encouraging young children go to war.

Manuela,
ResponderEliminarYour response is very interesting. I like the fact that you are connecting the book with your personal, day to day life. This shows that your understanding of the book is high because you are able to connect easily, but there are some things that I would change. As I was reading you blog, I got a little bit lost because I did not understand what the connection was, it was only until the end that you stated the connection. You should start you response with the connection (a short summary maybe) and then state you connection.
Manuela overral i thought your entry was pretty interesting not only did your story impact me as a reader but it connected perfectly to the text .I totally agree with you in the sense that the other boys reaction towards luca was simply insane and that it connects perfectly to what Mary says in the text.If i could make one suggestion it would be the same as Andrea at the beginning you can get a bit lost because we don't see the connection to the text.Overall its a pretty good entry and an impacting story , and i think its pretty good
